First, you totally neglected the fact that this was ?New York region's only round-the-clock Caribbean programming? station. Hardly the bastion of ?African-American? radio you portray. While steel band calypso music is always pleasant listening- there are many other formats missing from the airwaves as well- such as Gregorian Chants or Tibetan music. The type of outrage you describe seems to be limited to stories like this one from the Journal News, Westchester: ?Air America Radio, owned by Progress Media Inc., will feature Al Franken, Janeane Garofalo and hip-hop icon Chuck D and pitches itself as an alternative to conservative talk radio. But while it may provide another choice in the world of talk radio, it will eliminate the New York region's only round-the-clock Caribbean programming. But for some listeners, the melodic sounds of Caribbean music are all they want to hear. Carl Tyndale, 37, has listened to WLIB for more than 17 years. He remembers when it was mostly talk radio on Caribbean issues and was surprised to hear of the format change. In my Northern California hometown senior citizens were upset when the oldies station changed formats to all right-wing propaganda.

If Air America is so doomed and hypocritical, then why are so many LIARS such as yourself getting your panties all bunched up over it? I just got off the phone with the general manager of KBLA and he confirmed that Drudge is a liar- there was NO bounced check- NO $1 million owed- it was a dispute over the quality of the rebroadcasts. (The dead air and out of sequence taped broadcasts.) This has now been settled here in L.A. and Air America will be back on this evening.

As you know if you live in LA or Chicago AAR is down in those locales. There's not a lot of info about what's going on right now but I'll let you know what I know. AAR has leased air time on WNTD (CHI) and KBLA (LA) from a radio holding company that owns both stations. I'm not privy to the details as I'm not management and our legal counsel is not in house so I can't eavesdrop on them. With that said, there is some type of contractual dispute regarding the LA station. The holding company seems to be using the Chicago station as leverage regarding the LA station. I know that AAR is seeking an injunction against the holding company's taking AAR off the air. There seems to be a lot of optimism that we will get that injunction. From the little I know of legal matters, that is an indication that, at the very least, our legal counsel feels that we are in the right in this dispute and that a judge will feel that way too. I suspect that the holding company hopes that our desire to be on air will overpower any sense that we are getting screwed contractually.

I think this is probably a typical hardball business scenario that is indicative of AAR's unexpected success and somebody who was betting against that success trying to renegotiate.

It was written for a young audience. The style had a "Masters of the Universe." Think Conan meets Star Wars. People will have opinions about my book and that is fine. Some like it and some don't. Its called criticism. Some people loved The Passion, believing it brought appreciation to what Christ had to suffer while others thought it was a senseless gore fest. If you check BN.com, you will see positive reviews from readers. It was my first book and I feel I could have done better since the book was written in 2000, but published in 2002. Writing is a part of the learning process and you can always do better. Only a narrow few get away with it.
